DESCRIPTION:
Homemade mini lathe powered by a surplus electric bicycle motor. Equipped with a 2-3/4" chuck and a PWM speed controller.

This is a "No. 1" Plain-turning version of the Wade CAV lathe.

Dates back almost 80-90 years to original production. The carraige is moved by a manual leadscrew that goes up throught the center of the cylindrical bed.
That modern electric variable speed drive is a very nice update for an old machine. I have a later version with a back gear waiting for me to update the drive and motor with something a little more in keeping with the machine's vintage as well as spindle shaft, carriage tooling mount and tail stock modified slightly to allow use of a variety of more modern American lathe accessories.

Nice craftsmanship. I see a handle that seems to be for longitudinal feed, but I'm not sure how that is connected with the saddle. I'm also interested in how one keeps the saddle oriented rather than spinning on the tube used as the bed.
