I have looked over this entry and I think that what you are doing is a great idea. I would like to see more details as to how to replicate what you did.
I understand that an alternator generates AC and is rectified to make DC voltage. An alternator needs to be hooked up to a battery to make its load work properly. Did you do something different with the alternator in order to make it weld AC or DC? I would just like a little more information about how you have the alternator configured. I understand the part about hooking it up to an engine to turn it.
An alternator has like six or eight diodes in side to convert the heavy current to DC and a diode trio to sample the voltage. Do you leave the regulator in the alternator? Do you remove some of the diodes? That is what I would need to know to replicate this idea.
