Great idea, basically a speeder to wind the screw quickly. Not clear in the post, but most vises also respond to backlash reduction in the screw/ moving jaw connection. Lathe, do a little boring, and part-off a shim just thinner than the free movement of jaw. A medium coil spring between body and jaw ram adds some preload so jaw moves instantly to screw rotation. Assemble with some grease, suddenly you have a brand new tool. Unless you have a full-time helper, you'll know how relieving that one handed juggling act is an improvement.
