Mobile machine shops were prevalent in certain areas, only saw one in my lifetime. lathe with milling attachments, a small vertical mill, geared drill press, power hacksaw, compressor, pedestal and tiniest tool/ cutter grinder ever, welding gear tooling and bar stock. Can't remember any cranes though! Machines were small, sturdy, not lightweights. South Bends, Rockwell and so on. What struck me; how it was powered, loaded weight and how did they ever get machines stable and level? For a long time I wanted to duplicate it. Hats off to Frank S. !
