The bridge is connected as a voltage doubler. Two of the diodes in the bridge do nothing in this configuration.

Just found this site and it looks pretty good. I am starting to build this project. I have a good grasp of electronics and have been around it for some 50 years. I do not understand the connection to the ac side of the bridge; never seen a connection like it in 40 years I have understood schematics. Will try working it out and will post any tweaks here.
